Description

This unit introduces the student to a variety of key ideas, skills and questions relating to the academic and practical study of Music. It surveys the historical and theoretical underpinnings of a range of musical genres, including Western classical music, jazz, folk, pop and world musics, covering key concepts including notation, rhythm and harmony. Additionally, it considers the roles of music in historical and contemporary life, its impact on society and individuals, and the ways in which different academic disciplines investigate and explain those human experiences with music.
